Perhaps I should have conveyed my holiday wishes earlier, but it’s never too late, right? 🙂
The period before Christmas has been quite hectic for me. If you work in the retail business, you know what I mean. This is the toughest time of year for us. Luckily, I didn’t have to work on the 24th this time … so first thing in the morning I prepared my favourite soup, beef broth, the way my Mom taught me. For that, I use the usual veggies, but the most important ingredients are beef bones with marrow and turkey/goose/duck neck. These together make a really rich and golden soup. So, the Sunday menu looked like this: soup with noodles, bone marrow with toast and a bit later salade de boeuf. As for sweets, we had homemade cookies, cheese chips and the famous Hungarian beigli (nut rolls). We spent the day lounging around, taking a long walk and when being at home, we were watching TV and trying out all kinds of drinks: a good red wine, eggnogg, thanks to a good friend and Valhalla bitter from Denmark, a treat from my daughter. Wow, that one is fantastic. It helps to digest the huge amount of food one usually has during Christmas.
The only thing I miss though is snow. We had a little three days ago, but now it’s all gone. Looks like early spring here. Still, I am dreaming of snow covered places, white Christmas and soft Nordic Christmas lights …
