The Norwegian Coastline – From Another Perspective

Cycling along the Norwegian coastline is a real treat. Nevertheless, a few days ago I was lucky enough to be taken on a wonderful boat trip in the summer sunset out to one of the most romantic places in the so-called Kjærgården.
We’re in the south of Norway and this summer seems to be one of the hottest and driest ever in the history of this country. An extremely dry weather like this is not always the best and this year especially it is causing a lot of trouble on our old continent. There are extensive forest fires all over Northern Europe and it nearly impossible to kill them.

But let’s look at the bright side of hot summer nights and enjoy the relaxing view of the beautiful Isefjærfjorden with  pretty summer cabins. The fjord is one of the warmest in Norway, with a special microclimate and stretches deep into the mainland.

The end of the fjord is very calm even in windy conditions. It is very intimate actually and looks like a lake, but as soon as you taste the water, you know it’s part of the Skagerak sea.

As we approach slowly the pretty village of Høvåg, the area looks more densely populated and this summer especially it is very busy, everybody is making the most of the exceptionally good weather.

The temperature of the water in the fjord is unusually high this year, I remember it reached even 24 degrees in early June.

Houses in southern Norway are traditionally white, it is kind of a regulation in this area and it is also recommended that people pay special attention to the maintenance and conservation of these beautiful houses.

Of course there are numerous examples of the picture postcard red (falurött) cabins that the country is so renowned for.

How about a nice meal and a glass of wine alfresco?

My good friend says this is his favourite cabin. I can totally understand why.

This mustard green cabin is such a nice colour splash and it is in perfect harmony with the environment.
